Automated Payments

Mokuso takes the stress our of payments, by automating payments and managing failed payments for you.

One of the most common pain points we hear for our community of Senseis is collecting payments. This includes taking the first 10 mins of the class collecting payments or Parents dropping kids in the car park of the Dojo and the Senseis chasing payments via WhatApp messages.

Automated payments take this hassle away from the Sensei and give them the peace of mind to get on with their lessons.

Payment Processors

Each club registers has their own account with a supported payment processor like Stripe and is connected directly to their club within the Mokuso platform.

When Mokuso processes a payment, it is transacted directly against their own payment processor. This means that your money goes directly into your own account, Mokuso is never between you and your hard earnt income.

Mokuso currently supports Stripe for debit/credit card processing. In the near future we will be launching support for GoCardless. We believe the combination of two gives each Dojo the best value for their money.

When members take out a membership, they are asked which method they want to use for the membership payment.

Supported Payment Processors

Stripe - Debit/Credit Card Payments

Stripe provides versatile support for card based payments and it’s our required base payment processor. Offering support for recurring, one off and immediate payments. Stripe still offers low fees for the versatility of payment mechanisms.

GoCardless - Direct Debit (Coming Soon)

GoCardless is specifically designed for taking recurring payments directly from users bank accounts, via Direct Debit. GoCardless offers the lowest fees for periodic payments. However its lack of support for immediate payments means we still require Stripe for settling failed payments.

Types of Payments

Recurring payments

Automatically take recurring payment for:

  • Monthly plans
  • Weekly plans
  • Annual Licence book renewals

One off Payments

There are typically for:

  • Pay As You Go
  • Courses
  • Grading Events
  • Generic Events like Christmas parties, etc…
  • Missed payments due to expired credit cards, etc…

Failed payment handling

Sadly having to deal with failed payments is inevitable, Mokuso aims to make this as smooth and simple for both our Senseis and members. When Mokuso processes payments, it will automatically retry the payment a limited number of times.

On the second failure of a payment the member and Sensei are notified that the membership is past-due. The member is asked to update their payment details, as this often automatically fixes failures.

Should the payment still have failed after 5 automatic retry attempts. The member and Sensei are notified that the membership is now over-due. The member is then asked to complete payment directly with-in the app, so that the payment can be immediately confirmed and the account brought back up to date.

When Mokuso processes recurring memberships in this manner, the member will only be given their balance of classes once payment has been successfully taken.
